The Celebrating Gavara:
The origins of our community is the subject of many popular and colourful stories. Two legends connect us with the Kauravas of Mahabharata. Some say that our community came to be known as 'Gauris' or 'Gaureyas' because we worshipped 'Gauridevi', the consort of Lord Shiva. It is also believed that the Gavaras were one among the many communities that settled down in South India from Panchala hundreds of years ago.
